College Considerations

In my quest for further knowledge, I knew that college was one of the only ways to succeed and get a higher paying career. However, it was not an easy decision to choose which college in particular that I wanted to attend, so I naturally had a dilemma. I managed to narrow my decision down to 3 colleges:
1) Keiser University- http://www.keiseruniversity.edu/ I thought this would be a good choice in a college due to the opportunities it gave when it came to classes: I liked the fact that you can have one class a month and therefore finish much faster than having all 6 for 4 years.
2) Devry University- http://www.devry.edu/ I believed this was a good choice for me because of the online education options and the diversity of the place in terms of education and the options it offered.
3) Florida International University- http://www.fiu.com/ This was my last consideration as well as the college i chose. It was the college of my choice because of the Engineering program it offers as well as the location in relation to my home. I believe it was the right decision for those reasons.

What I've learned so far

1)Of all the things we've covered this year, i find almost all of them to have been helpful in various things that I do. For example, Microtype has increased my typing speed and helped in making my keystrokes more efficient. Also, the stock game has helped me in making decisions on the stock market, which will allow me to become a more successful investor when I become one.
2) Something I would like to learn about computers in the following 9 weeks is how to use the mechanics of certain things in programs such as excel, word, and various other programs.

Video Games as Learning Tools

The article was about the dilemma of whether or not to incorporate video games and the most recent technology into the curriculum. The article sited various experts in the fields of learning as well as video games and their views seem to boil down to one thing: will children actually gain something for real life with this? The author never seems to pick a side, giving each side a chance with their own arguement. Finally, the article poses the question of whether or not children have the attention span to handle a video game learning environment.

Movie Review

The movie 300 was a movie that effectively captured the battle of Thermopylae in 480 A.D. It is based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller. The movie begins with the life of the king, Leonidas, and all his struggles through life being born a spartan. Children at that time were selectively chosen and if they were not fit to be spartan, they were thrown off a cliff. The film used bullet-time, or slow motion, to capture some of the more thrilling parts of the film. The slow time allows the viewer to see the limbs being severed one at a time and not have to worry about not being able to keep up with all the killing. War is a repeated theme throughout the movie, and friendship is also valued above all other things. The 300 spartans had to fight as one to overcome the million man strong persian army, and their values about not running and never giving up were also tested. All in all, the movie was a great depiction of war-time brothers at the time and the troubles and tribulations they faced.

Learning

To make students want to learn more in school, or feel more incorporated into the school system, is to make rewards for them, so they strive to have better ideas and put more time into school. America is a capitalist society and there are rewards for those who come up with the best ideas so why not incorporate that system into the schools and prepare students for the real world? It would work for everyone, and most likely make school more fun and more hands-on.
